Do you have a bathtub that is in dire need of an up-do? If you…
When you have a new acrylic bathtub installed, it’s important to know how to care for it to maintain its beauty and prevent damage. It’s very possible the old tub you just traded in was made of a different material than your new tub. The care and cleaning requirements for your new tub may be significantly different than what you are accustomed to using. It’s important to do your research so you know what materials and cleaning solutions to use.
Always refer to the care instructions that come with your new tub. Be warned that some cleaning solutions will claim that they are safe for use on certain tub surfaces, but they are not always correct. Again, see your instruction manual for care recommendations to prevent causing damage to your new tub and keep it looking like new for many years to come.
After each use, remove moisture using a squeegee or cloth to prevent mildew and water spots from forming. It’s also a good practice to remove any toys or bath mats from the tub after it’s drained to prevent watermarks and mildew spots on the bottom of your tub.
Clean the tub weekly using a non-abrasive cleaner. There is a list of approved cleaners for your bathtub, please take special note of which cleaners are recommended and don’t make exceptions. Make a point to rinse off the chemicals when you are finished cleaning out the tub
Be especially careful to avoid using any abrasive cleaning solutions or tools. These chemicals and cleaning devices can cause damage to your tub that cannot be reversed and void the warranty.
Be warned that tobacco smoke will cause discoloration of your new tub. Prevent smoke from coming in close contact with your new tub to keep it looking as beautiful as the day it was first installed.
Take care to use only a non-abrasive sponge or cloth to wipe down the new tub area. If you are concerned that a sponge will not be enough to remove any soap scum, we recommend cleaning your tub more often. By doing this you will make cleaning your tub faster and easier because there won’t be any built up scum or mildew that requires more elbow grease to remove.
The seal on the wall of your tub is made of silicone and must have special care taken. Use either a 50/50 solution of bleach and water, or a vinegar/water solution, and lightly wipe clean with a cloth regularly. Be careful not to mix chemicals and make sure to rinse thoroughly.
When you take care of your new bathtub right, it will continue to look good for years and years to come. By cleaning it weekly and avoiding exposing it to chemicals, tools, and other things that will cause damage, you will be amazed at how great it still looks many years later.
Keep your tub looking like new by following the care and instruction manual. Only use chemicals that are on the approved list in your tub’s care manual. Do not use any abrasive cleaners, cleaning tools or other substances that will cause your new tub damage. Clean it weekly to avoid needing to work harder to get it clean again.
